Achievements

Since 2002 through Reading is the Way Up®, City National Bank has:

  • Donated more than 55,000 books to California, Nevada and New York libraries.
  • Awarded450 teacher grants totaling more than $295,000 to enhance literacy.
  • Helped open 20 new elementary school libraries through its partnership with The Wonder of Reading in Los Angeles.
  • Raised more than $275,000 in charitable gifts from colleagues and clients through its Reading is the Way Up Fund.
  • Supported colleagues who have volunteered to read to children.

Program Recognition

  • Received the 2005 President’s Volunteer Service Award, the 2005 Corporate Philanthropy Award from the Los Angeles Public Library
  • In 2006, received the Corporate Award from the Getty House Foundation.
  • Honored as the Corporate Visionary Partner by The Wonder of Reading and received the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Corporate Citizen Award.
  • Acknowledged by the City Council of Los Angeles with an official proclamation initiated by Councilmember Tom La Bonge in appreciation for City National’s support of local schools.
  • Recognized by the Los Angeles City Council in June 2009 for efforts to promote literacy in the city of Los Angeles.
